Identity Crisis
Letter to the Reader:
Discovering who we are is a privilege—to question, to seek, and to know there is more beyond 9-5. Creativity breathes when aligned with the Holy Spirit, igniting dreams once stifled. You are royalty, a child of the most High, destined to walk in His grace and purpose.
Reality,
Realism,
& ridiculous notions
of creating parameters.
Desires
without a plan
will never become
more than
a daydream.
Yet when is an appropriate time
to allow the fantasy
to become your daily ritual?
When are we meant
to desire more
than a wish upon a star?
When will we allow
the concept of a life
without a 6am alarm clock
and congested roads
be what is traveled
each day
not only a possibility
but a viable option?
Creativity is stifled
and like the unicorn's air
taken from her lungs,
her glimmer fades
into the smoke
of the industrial revolution,
all in the pretence of
‘being realistic’.
The expectations
we see in career paths
are so subjective
and through a preconceived lens
of what we hold to the standard
of the world we know,
the version birthed,
raised
and married into.
Yet the very notion
of reality is shaped
with the post code
that is marked on the certificate
that announces your entrance
into not only the world
but the reality in
which you will live.
Privilege of income,
Stature
& colour
is not only what allows,
shapes
& moulds
Your dreams
but sparks
the surety of such realities,
dreams
& possibilities
ever departing your day dreams.
Alignment,
Peace
& satisfaction
are all preliminary
of your heart's desires,
yet were they of your heart
or of your privilege?
To dream of hope,
to dream of more,
to desire in its very essence
is a privilege.
Existential crisis,
changes of careers.
Do we not see these as
a prerogative mindset
or simply a lost heart
searching for its purpose?
Yet who can we become?
If not aligned to the purpose
in which we came into a world
such as the one we know?
